Spring Fever

Winter weather has seriously been putting a damper on my mood. In years past I have taken comfort in the winter season as a time for bettering myself. A time to work extra hard at my job, write more, save money, start a new exercise routine, etc.

But this year I have found it difficult to enjoy any of the winter routines I have in the past. Moving twice since the start of the new year has put a pause on activities I definitely took for granted last year. For example sleeping in the same bed for more than three nights in a row.

I promise I’m not complaining– very happy with the choices I’ve made the last few months. (It’s been way too long since my last post so here is a quick update.) In November I took a leap of faith, quit my job and have been working on growing my photography business. I love it more than I ever could have imagined but constantly being on the go during the winter season has made focusing on my own well-being a challenge.

Not today though. Today the sun is shining. It’s 69 degrees outside. I was able to run my favorite trails this morning and now I am at the coffee shop working on photos. Basically today is a little sneak peek of my spring and the perfect push to get me through winter. I also forgot how much I love spring clothes. Check out todays outfit!

If you’re having trouble finding happy days in winter just remember that brighter, warmer ones are just around the corner. Do at least one thing that makes YOU happy tonight, tomorrow, and the next day and winter will be gone before we know it!

How To: Stationary Photography Backdrops using only three materials

IMG_3668Photography backdrops can be such a pain. I found a perfect way to use my 5 backdrops easily that keeps them out of the way and works best for my needs. All of my backdrops are vinyl and 5×7 feet, but this way would definitely work for bigger backdrops as well.

What you need:

-Cheap Metal Curtain rods that stretch the length of your backdrops

-Curtain Rod hooks to hold the backdrop and rod up on wall (these will come with the screws you need to put them in the wall)

– E-6000

rods

Tools:

-Power Drill

-Screw Driver

-Measuring tape

Step 1:

Stretch each curtain rod out to the length you need it to go. Lay the backdrop out flat (face side down) and put a continuous line of E-6000 adhesive across the top of the backdrop. Place the metal curtain rod on top (make sure it is pressed down good onto the glue) and let it dry for about 2 hours or until it feels dry. Repeat this step until you have all your backdrops glued to rods.

Step 2:

While you are waiting on the glue to dry, you can start drilling the curtain rod hooks into the wall.

I drilled my first set of hooks 6 feet high and 5 1/2 feet apart. From there I went down around 2 inches for each of the other hooks but kept them all 5 1/2 feet wide. My shortest hooks were about 5 feet tall.

Step 3:

Roll up dried backdrops and place them on their hook!! They can be changed out to taller and shorter heights still.

This is a very easy and cheap way to hang your own backdrops!!!

Marketing on Instagram

Instagram is one of the best ways to target consumers right now. It’s easy and so far they haven’t put as many restrictions on your posts as Facebook has.

I manage an Instagram page for the Boutique I work at and I have learned a trick that really makes a difference in how many people engage with my photos.

The type of camera you are using!

marketing tip

Neither picture has any editing done to it. Obviously the composition of a photo is also important, but which would stand out more to you if you were just scrolling through your feed?

Take the photos you want to use on a DSLR, email them to yourself, and THEN upload the pictures to Instagram. You’ll notice a difference!

Totally obsessing over this long cardi trend! There are so many ways to style them. My favorite is with bootcut jeans & a fitted tank, but don’t they look awesome over a dress too? I am definitely taking the black & white Buddylove one to wear over my New Year’s Eve dress on Thursday. (It’s on sale for 40% off at lovecocos.com if you use the code “BUDDYLOVE” at checkout!!!)

Blanket Scarves

Yesterday at Cocos we got a shipment of these gigantic plaid squares. Come to find out, they were scarves. As I held one up I had a “WTF” moment. –How can this possibly be a scarf?? How to do I wear it? Why. is. it. so. freaking. large.

Then I tried one on. And…….  HOLY CUTE!

Flash Tattoos & Bull Riding

flashtats2

This weekend was my sister’s bachelorette party which called for something special. Something flashy. Something awesome. Something you can wear all day long AND get wet. (From pool water to sweat from dancing all night long.)

Have you ever heard of flash tattoos?! They are basically exactly like the temporary tattoos we wore when we were little, only more appropriate since we aren’t 7 anymore.

Seriously, they are awesome! I got so many compliments from my sister’s friends, and most of them decided they wanted to wear one too!

EVEN my mom decided she wanted to wear one:

Awesome, right? (Find them here)

After the pool party we had going on, we went out to the bars to celebrate Kylie’s last fling before the ring.

This is how it ended:

Fun times & Great memories. (P.S. Kylie isn’t passed out, just wanted to snuggle me for the picture lol)

1980’s Ray-Bans

So…

My birthday was last Sunday and I am officially 22. And yes, for those of you who are wondering, I still have no idea what I am going to do with my life.

I wish that when I woke up Sunday morning there would’ve been a magical card with details of which path to choose and where I would end up, laying next to my head. But instead I woke up with my sticky bra half on/half off and a headache that would have stopped Marlin from trying to find Nemo. (Had a little too much fun at a wedding the night before.)

Anyway, the day really turned around when I went to meet my family for lunch. Everyone was there, which is a birthday present in itself because they are my favorite people on the planet.

After lunch my dad came to my car and handed me his pair of 1980’s Ray-Ban sunglasses and said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”. I had told him that I wanted them awhile back, but I never thought he’d trust me with something of his that was old and valuable.

raybans

Cool right?? (My other accessories are pretty on-point today as well)

It makes me feel good that I have people who care about me and want to spend time with me on my birthday, even if I feel like I don’t deserve it sometimes.

They’re just sunglasses right? You’re probably wondering why I am so happy about them. I don’t really know how to answer that, but I do know that I will cherish these sunglasses forever and ever. Even when they go out of style again I will hold onto them and remember the day, my 22nd birthday, that my dad gave me something of his to keep.

What to Wear: Shark Week Party edition!

So, your boyfriend is obsessed with Shark Week just like the other 80% of the male population. Or maybe you are the one with the passion for those great white beasts! Either way, Shark Week viewing parties are a fun, and a great way to get your friends and your significant others’ friends together!

Drinks and snacks such as the “Shark Attack” and “Great White Shark Cocktail” will of course be involved.

But the most important part of this day is hands down going to be the outfit. You could of course go the cliche way and wear something with a shark on it. OR you could wear an adorable styling outfit INSPIRED by a shark.

1. Tiger Shark:

Wear a blue colored maxi (get one with some thin stripes to make it even more dramatic) Add some sea-colored stack-able bracelets and your favorite necklace.

2. Great White:
